Chocolate reinvented.

Tastefully unique.

We strive to set ourselves aside from your typical chocolate bar or sugary treat.  The confectionary industry may not be our biggest fans...but let us digress!  Nucao combines a pure chocolatey flavour with nutty hemp seeds in combination with a mild caramel note from our coconut sugar.

Naturally nutrient rich.

If you aren't already eating hemp seeds, it's time to hop on the bandwagon.  In addition to their slightly nutty flavour, they contain a wealth of nutrients such as magnesium, iron, omega-3 and protein.  Hemp seeds are simply incredible!

Less sugar.  More flavour.

Nucao is sweetened with just a touch of coconut sugar.  Coconut sugar is much less processed than refined sugar, and is also better for your blood sugar.  We also feel that coconut sugar has a wonderfully fruity hint, and further compliments the flavour of our cacao.

We don't stop when you're full.

One tree for every bar.

Mangrove forests are crucial in the fight against climate change as they sequester heaps of carbon throughout their lifetime. That's why with every bar you purchase, you plant a mangrove tree in Madagascar or Nepal with our partner Eden Reforestation Projects.  Who would have thought planting trees could actually taste good...?

The plastic problem won't disappear, but our wrappers do.

Instead of your run-of-the-mill disposable plastic, we wrap nucao in a home-compostable film made of cellulose. Our wrappers are best disposed of in the home compost, but if you don't have one, no worries!  Your residual trash bin will get the job done.

More about...

cacao

Our wild cocoa trees grow in a agroforestry system, i.e. next to a banana tree. For this reason, our cocoa is made up of the two fine cocoa bean varieties Criollo and Trinitario. Not only does it taste great, it is also a 1-A source of magnesium, which contributes to normal muscle function and numerous other health benefits.

hemp seeds

Hemp seeds live up to their name as a superfood. They are very high in calories, contain loads of vitamins, essential omega-3 fatty acids and are a good source of protein.

coconut sugar

Coconut sugar provides a pleasantly fruity sweetness and, due to the low degree of processing, still contains minerals, vitamins and its self defining flavours. Even better, it does all this without noticeably affecting your blood sugar levels.

cacao butter

Our cacao butter gives the bar its creamy consistency.

acerola

Acerola contains an incredible amount of vitamin C and for that reason should not be skipped out on. One of our products alone covers more than 30% of the daily vitamin C requirement. Why is vitamin C so important? It contributes to the normal function of your immune system and increases iron absorption.

FAQ

Do your products contain palm oil, soy or lactose? Are they gluten-free?

All our products are free from palm oil, soy, gluten and lactose. However, the production facility where our bars are made manufacturers other products besides ours. For this reason, we can't be 100% sure whether the other recipes contain soy, and that the machines are 100% soy-free. However, the cleaning is done very thoroughly and consistently, so only the smallest amounts could be detected each time during regular analyses.

I have a nut allergy, can I still eat nucao?

Nucao is always based on nuts and hemp seeds. The type of nut varies depending on the variety. If you are allergic to only one type of nut, it's best to check the ingredients again to see which variety might be right for you.

What is the best way to store nucao?

Our nucao bars start to melt at temperatures of around 30°C. To avoid a chocolate syrup mess (unless that's what you're into), the bars should not be stored in the sun for a long time and should be protected from light. If you prefer chocolate that is a little cooler and more firm to the bite, you can also store the bars in the fridge. Tip: If you want to avoid the whitish/greyish haze (so-called fat rime) that is often seen on chocolates of all kinds, it is generally recommended to store the bars in a cool, dark and dry place. If it does occur, don't panic, the fat streak only affects the appearance of the product, but the bar is okay to eat without hesitation.

What is your packaging made out of?

Our packaging consists of home-compostable cellulose film, and a thin layer of starch and paper. It is printed with water-based organic inks.

Where should I dispose of the packaging?

The best option for the disposal of our wrappers is the home compost, where it decomposes after an average of 6 months, depending on the environmental conditions. If you don't have compost, conventional methods such as the recycling or residual waste are the best options as no harmful substances are released when our packaging is burnt!

Who can I contact if my order has not arrived or has not arrived as expected?

You can contact us at any time at the following e-mail address: info@the-nu-company.com.
